After Care for Laser Hair Removal

Post Treatment Instructions:

Makeup:
Makeup may be used after the treatment, unless there is epidermal blistering. It is recommended to use new makeup to reduce the possibility of infection. Be sure to wear moisturizer under your makeup. In fact, moisturizer will help exfoliate the dead hair from the follicle, so use moisturizer frequently and freely on the treated area. Any moisturizer without alpha-hydroxy acids is recommended.

Sun exposure:
Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds or self-tanning lotions for 30 days to reduce the chance of dark or light spots at the treatment area. Use sunscreen SPF25 or higher at all times throughout the treatment and for the following 3 weeks.

Avoiding Scarring:
Avoid picking or scratching the treated skin as this may cause scarring. DO NOT USE any other hair removal methods or products on the treated area during the course of your laser hair removal treatments, as it will prevent you from achieving your best results.

Showering:
Shower with lukewarm water after the hair removal laser treatments. The treated area may be washed gently with a mild soap. Skin should be patted dry and NOT rubbed. You may apply deodorant after 24 hours.

Hot Tubs:
Avoid hot tubs or saunas while skin is red (1-2 days).

Exercise:
No strenuous exercise for 24 hours after the treatment as this will aggravate the redness and could lead to swelling.

Re-growth:
Hair re-growth occurs at different rates on different areas of the body.  Please note that stubbles (representing dead hair being shed from the hair follicle) will appear within 1-7 days from the treatment date. This is normal and is not new hair growth and it will fall out in due time.

Keep it dry:
Keep the treated area clean and dry while it is healing. Clean the area  with soap and water and then gently pat the area dry. If your clothes rub the treatment area you may apply a thin coat of antibiotic ointment and cover with a sterile dressing while it is healing.
Blistering:
Blisters are common after laser tattoo removal. Use a sterile needle and drain the blister each time it fills up, this may have to be done multiple times.  Do not cut or tear the blister as this may lead to infection. Do not wrap or cover the blister as this will hold in the heat.Cool compresses:
Use a clean cloth soaked in cold water as a compress to cool the area, then pat dry. This will help reduce blistering, discomfort and inflammation.Pain medication:
You may take plain Tylenol, but avoid aspirin (it can increase the risk of bruising and/or bleeding).

Preventing infection:
Do not pick at the scab or allow the skin to become scraped, as this may result in infection and scarring. Shaving should be avoided in the treated area until the scab is healed.

Makeup:
Do not apply makeup, cream, or lotions on the treated area for 48 hours, unless recommended by our office.

Sunblock:
Wear a sun block with an SPF25 or higher over the area for 3 weeks following the laser tattoo treatment.

Hot tubs:
Avoid submersing the treated area in any hot water for 48 hours or while it is still red.

After Care for Laser Skin Resurfacing

Post Treatment Instructions

Redness:
It is normal for the treated area to feel like a sunburn for several hours, use a cold compress as needed. You should also expect to experience redness and / or purpura (epidermal bleeding) from five to seven days in the treated area.

Bathing:
When bathing, avoid very hot water on the treatment site. Avoid strenuous exercise and massage for 3-5 days post laser skin treatment.

Face Washing:
Wait at least 12 hours (next morning) to wash your face. Cleanse your face with the cleanser provided by your Laser Specialist or use a mild cleanser such as Elta Foaming Wash. Use the cleanser for the duration of the healing process. DO NOT use any scrubs or any irritants such as Retin-A, Benzoyl Peroxide or any such astringents for 2 weeks. Skin always should be patted dry and NOT rubbed.

Moisturizing:
Avoid use of any moisturizing products (lotions, serums, liquid sunscreens, aloe, etc.) for at least 5 days. Using these products will prevent your skin from peeling and may hinder the full benefits of the laser skin rejuvenation procedure.

Application of Aquaphor moisturizer:
Apply the 4th day post-treatment a couple of hours before bedtime. Leave on while sleeping and steam in the shower the following morning. With a warm wash cloth use large circular motions to remove Aquaphor. Remember – DO NOT SCRUB.  This procedure can be repeated the next evening if all the dots don’t come off.

Makeup:
Makeup should not be used for at least 5 days post treatment. Most makeups are moisturizing, which can sometimes prevent the peeling process. If makeup is absolutely needed, we recommend using new makeup to reduce the possibility of infection.

Sun Exposure:
Avoid prolonged direct sun exposure and tanning beds for at least 1-2 months post treatment in order to reduce the chance of dark or light spots. A powered mineral makeup can be worn during the healing process as a sunscreen, but make sure the makeup is new and the brush is clean. Liquid sunscreens are not recommended.

Sunscreen:
Use sunscreen of SPF 25 or higher after the 5th day of your skin rejuvenation treatment. We recommend a powdered sunscreen by ColoreScience.

Other procedures:
Avoid tweezing, waxing, bleaching or chemical peels during the course of the healing process.
